Something Relevant

Something Relevant is an Indian jam band from Southern-Mumbai. The band consists of an eclectic ensemble that includes a saxophonist, a percussionist and a classical pianist.

The band members, are from different parts of the city with different backgrounds. They have evolved over the years into integral elements of a motley musical ensemble that communicates almost telepathically. They are good friends and their one of a kind chemistry manifests itself in the music.

Aazin Printer - Vocals
Stuart DaCosta - Bass/Vocals
Aalok Padhye - Tabla/Percussion
Ryan Sadri - Saxophone
Luis Chico - Piano, Keyboards, Laptops
Tanmay Bhattacherjee - Guitar/ Trumpet
Jehangir Jehangir - Drums/Percussion

The band has a varied set; they have a collection of original music that has a distinct sound and lyrics that are drawn from personal experiences. The music has influences from all over the world, however the biggest influence is Bombay city. The band is a big fan of popular acts like The Dave Matthews Band, Jamie Cullum, The Beatles, The Cat Empire, Tower of Power and Animal Liberation Orchestra. STR is heavily influenced by the music, pulse, spirit and vibe of world music greats like Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti, Ali Farka Toure, Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Arturo Sandoval, Manu Chao, Bob Marley, Richard Bona, Maceo Parker and Miles Davis. The band makes it a habit of twisting up the old ‘bollywood’ classics from the golden era (1950-1979) with funked up, jazz and big band arrangements...bringing back the old school vibe! Something Relevant treats the old classics and popular Indian folk songs as their ‘jazz standards’, so to speak, after having grown up listening to these tunes, thanks to their elder family members!
