Intensive devotion to art sometimes requires seclusion. Finding himself in the deserted cold heart of Antarctica, music producer PHILIP SANTOLL stands proof that one man is able to create a sonic cosmos of its own even when on his own. His pursuit of a symbiosis between melancholic, elegic Doom Metal and intense, gloomy Black Metal trademarks and his lyrical affinity to cosmologic themes and references eventually led to the creation of a unique music style that lacks of compare: COSMIC DOOM BLACK METAL.

It was in 2002 when Santoll started a virtual band that lacked any other musicians, subsequently named NONEXISTENCE, in which he was able to finally follow his artistic vision as a songwriter. With ten years of experience in various Thrash, Doom and Black Metal bands as guitarist and singer, Santoll left the traditional band line up behind and begun his long solitary journey through the frozen Antarctic darkness when he set up his isolated recording facility and started to shape and develop the songs that eventually would become the band's first album "Nihil". With the care of a perfectionist he conducted extensive pre-productions and an exhausting recording session that seemed endless. But all his lonely efforts were greatly rewarded in the end: 2007 saw the release of "Nihil" and with its intense and unique atmosphere the band's debut album immediately convinced and impressed both critics and listeners.

Having remained in secluded creativity for almost a decade Santoll sought after a different approach for his second album. In order to explore his band's full potential he reached out for some external advice after the song writing process was finished in 2010. With Finnish multi-instrumentalist and FME awardee TUOMAS SAUKKONEN (Before The Dawn, Black Sun Aeon) he found a companion more supportive as one can desire: Saukkonen not only agreed to produce the album but also offered to perform Drums and Bass on it and provided his proven team of dedicated studio, sound and mastering engineers. The result of this rewarding cooperation was enormously satisfying and able to gain the support of the legendary British extreme Metal label CANDLELIGHT RECORDS in 2012.

2013 sees the release of "Antarctica", the band's second album. And the band is no longer only virtual: After the recruitment of session musicians Nonexistence is finally ready to perform live.
