Minmae / T.S. Brooks

Once, when Minmae's Sean Brooks was maybe ten or eleven years old, he
accompanied his father to a strange and eccentric man his father
rented a house to who bore a striking resemblance to erstwhile
American president, Abe Lincoln; replete with long beard, exceedingly
tall and atavistic in appearance. What Brooks recalls most from that
encounter is that it was the old man's birthday, and when his father
asked him how old he was, he responded by saying he didn't know
- he had gotten so old he had lost track.

Minmae never commanded any armies. And Brooks has never let grow much
of a beard, but when asked, Brooks seems to think Minmae has either
been in
existence for eight years or ten years - he's not sure which. And when
questioned about the band's discography, he thinks the band has
released nine records or eleven records. Again, he's not sure. And the
amount of singles and compilations and split releases and EP's,
perhaps the world will never really know.

Minmae's roots are in English folk-psych and American noise, but the
band's many graduations have led it to a strange cross between Neil
Young (with Crazy Horse) and Kinks (Village Green and Great Lost Kinks
Album)
era, with moments of disparate influences such as Captain Beefheart,
Wilco, Television, and the Cure. Yes, the Cure.

Sadly, that leaves little for the one-trick pony crowd, so obsessively
married to the ideal of neo-Capitalist categorizing. Sorry, folks. But
if you're into smart lyrics, clever and clean guitars, and uniquely
distilled
American rock and roll, Minmae is your band.
