Zagastic was formed as a reggae-jam combo in Pecs, the Mediterranean multicultural center of Southern Hungary, at the first half of the decade. Its early gigs took place at local clubs and festivals, jamming together with various featured vocalists, percussionists, DJs and selectors. At these times main motivation was simply playing music together itself, good for establishing a milieu for digging deep down to the roots and improving a basic sense for a collective riddim production. Though Zagastic's repertoire contained mainly reggae and R&B covers, with much attention and respect to the works of Bob Marley and various other dreads, it already had some of its own music as well, inspiring the band to forge its way towards polishing a new sound. With the joining of Peti Z, with whom Guli had shared musical experiences back in France and Spain, and Dalma, a unique vocalist with a lot of soul, Zagastic has finally found its style combining roots reggae, jazz, R&B, hip-hop, dub and dancehall elements. Their first album, Zagasound, an authorial product and still fresh in stores, contains eight massive tracks paying respect to "dem natty men" and deals with notions of mediating "I-rie" values to the posterity of all nations. To fulfil this mission, the band is also a host of Batta Dem, a new annual local festival introducing national and international representatives of reggae and dancehall music to the public, with the aim of drawing attention to the need for a better and ecologically conscious society without misunderstanding and strife. Currently, Zagastic is performing at various major festivals such as Sziget, SZIN and LB27 Reggae Camp, several Hungarian clubs, and is working on its second album continuing its exploration both in style and spirituality.

Pécs, Hungary (2001 - present)
