Artist Detailed Info: Whopper

1. Band from Aalesund, Norway.

2. Alter ego of 80's Liverpool band The Teardrop Explodes. They recorded one song under this name "Kwalo Klobinsky's Lullaby" for the Zoo Records compilation To The Shores Of Lake Placid.

Whopper is a norwegian indie band, formed by Anders Bortne (vocals, guitar), Anders Hole (bass), Bernt Thomas Bortne (drums) and Øyvind Michaelsen (guitar). Kåre Joao (Kåre and the Cavemen) has joined whopper with his bongos and congas.

In the early 90s in Bergen, the old whopper was formed, with the Anders', Karl Fredrik from Lano Places and Cato. Øyvind and Bernt Thomas had just dissolved their Ålesund-based popband Ed, and the new whopper was formed summer 1996, when the old whopper had been quiet for some time.

The first whopper album, "Let's Make Sounds" was financed by a large loan in the local bank. Whopper had been on "tour" in the US, and home in Bergen they met Geir Luedy (Chocolate Overdose, Unge Frustrerte Menn), who immediately loved the music. Luedy wanted Whopper to create an album at Sigma Studios, a former institution Bergen's rock culture.

Whopper was very happy with LMS, and started recording "takes & mistakes" at Luedy's new studio Lydriket. The second half of this album was recorded at Bjørn Ivar Tysse's Rec90 Studio, also in Bergen. "takes.." was regarded ingenious by many critiques, and it was nominated as "best rock album of the year" at Spelemannsprisen, the norwegian equivalent of a Grammy.

Whopper played at the Øya festival in Oslo in 2001, and at the Quart festival (Norway's most successful festival) in 2002.
