Twikki

As a songwriter, Twikki spins urban fairytales in the vein of Frank Turner; drawing together the acoustic, troubadourial leanings of Springsteen and Dylan. The inspiration of contemporary American songwriters is clear with the influence of Conor Oberst and Iron & Wine shining through. These are juxtaposed with a love of numerous other artists, as diverse as Otis Redding, The Wonder Years and Modest Mouse.

Exit Strategy is the first EP of songs from Nottingham-born, Birmingham-based singer/songwriter Twikki, having been a regular at open mic nights around Nottingham, in addition to playing a number of shows at venues as diverse as bars, function rooms and local festivals. The highlight so far has been an infamous performance to a capacity crowd in the caves beneath the legendary Loggerheads pub. Since relocating to Birmingham he has played a number of local shows, establishing himself and continuing to build his audience through captivating and conversational live shows. This wider audience is supplemented by a healthy online following, the result of tireless promotion through social networks and multiple mentions on the blogosphere.

Debut release "Prey For Peace" was well received by many, its combination of atmospheric electronica and insightful lyricism providing an intriguing insight into Twikki’s potential as an artist. "Exit Strategy" builds further on this promise, stripping away the artificial instrumentation to reveal a more mature, natural song-writing style.

Written over a two-week period in early 2011, Exit Strategy eschews five years worth of material in favour of a more contemporary selection of songs. This new collection explores themes of alienation, solace and unrequited love set against a captivatingly melodic folk backdrop. Lead single and title track "Exit Strategy" was the first to be penned for the EP, written on a long train ride back home to Nottingham.

Exit Strategy features a more organic, folk-oriented approach; free of the electronic sounds and synthesizers liberally employed on Prey For Peace and instead, adopts a more stripped down approach, with the subtle inclusion of horns, strings, organs and upright bass not discounted.

Twikki will release his debut EP 'Exit Strategy' on July 12th for download on http://www.twikki.bandcamp.com/.
