The cheekily-named IDM supergroup Team Techno consisted of three solo composers from the Philadelphia area: William Fields, Michael Henderson (aka Nintariman) and Matthew Tuozzo (aka Cerebral). Forming in late 2000, the trio of electronic musicians was unique among area contemporaries in that they performed their music using as little automation as possible. Computers were synchronized manually to one another without the benefit of MIDI; keyboards and keytars were played live, often through traditional effects pedals. In addition, Team Techno's songs tended not to be standard repetitive IDM fare, falling closer to the epic arrangements of such proto-electronic bands as Tangerine Dream, yet with far more sophisticated and modern rhythms. Due to this combination of complex song structures and precision execution, Team Techno's performances often seemed to fall somewhere between a tag team DJ battle and a Pink Floyd concert. After self-releasing two albums and playing a number of shows under the banner of Philly's tbtmo label, Team Techno disbanded in late 2004.
