Stillbite is an American rock band from Sandwich, Illinois, formed in 2010. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Corey Dowd, guitarists Joe Duffy and Tristan Boring, bassist Cayman Joseph, and drummer CJ Grinstead. Stillbite has performed at the Sandwich High School Variety Show in 2012 and 2013, and have opened for JT Woodruff and Mark McMillon, lead singer and guitarist of the band Hawthorne Heights. Stillbite has not released an official album, but they have performed and posted demos online of various original and cover songs including a cover of “21 Guns” by Green Day and the Stillbite original song “Back Alley Heart Surgeon”. There are plans for Stillbite to release a full length concept album in summer 2013.
The band was formed by guitarist Joe Duffy and bassist Cayman Joseph in 2010. The name of the band comes from the natural mineral stilbite. The name was discovered by Duffy and Joseph, as it was on a poster of different minerals in Joseph’s bedroom. This poster also displayed the mineral metallica, as the rock group Metallica is an inspiration to the band. Soon after formation, the band also included drummer Paul Lambert and guitarist Sarah Cantrell. After several practices, Lambert and Cantrell parted with the band, and current guitarist Tristan Boring joined. For the next year the band was not very active; releasing only two demos. The first was a recording titled “Improv Jam”, and the second called “RocKoustical”; an instrumental song featuring bass and acoustic guitar. In 2011, lead vocalist Corey Dowd and drummer Trever Adrian joined, making Stilbite a fully instrumented rock band. During practices for the 2012 Sandwich High School Variety Show, Adrian became ill and was temporarily replaced by current drummer CJ Grinstead. The 2012 Variety Show was Adrian’s last performance with the band, as he was later officially replaced by Grinstead. In November 2012 Stillbite opened for JT Woodruff and Mark McMillon of Hawthorne Heights in a small private show in the garage of close friend Justin Vegrzyn, where they perfromed a cover of the song “Na Na Na” by My Chemical Romance. In early 2013, Dowd and Duffy worked closely together writing a new song called “Back Alley Heart Surgeon”, and released it as a demo on the band’s Facebook page. Stillbite also wrote another original song titled “Bury the Hatchet”, which they debut at the 2013 Variety Show on April 12, along with a cover of “Arlandria” by Foo Fighters. This is said to be Stillbite’s most successful performance, receiving much positive feedback as an audience favorite.
