Why Steintiger:
“General Li Kuang was once known as a mighty warrior. When his mother was devoured by a tiger he shot an arrow at a stone that he believed was the tiger. The arrow penetrated the stone all the way up to its feathers. When the General realized that it was only a stone that he had shot at, he was unable to pierce it again. Later he came to came to be known as General Stone Tiger.” (Chinese legend)
Steintiger was established in September 2012 in Berlin by Giulio Scocchia and Luca Fogagnolo.
Their style is created using soundscapes and rhythms, with emphasis on the past, present and future of music. Passing from atmospheres of most famous Sergio Leone’s western movies, taking inspiration from experimental masters as Jon Hassell and Arild Andersen they create music intrigues wich forms and style cannot be inserted in a specific category.
In june 2013 they recorded their first album and Erik Honorè(norwegian musician and producer that collaborate with artists like Arve Henriksen, Sidsel Endresen, Nils Petter Molvaer, David Sylvian and Eivind Aarset) joined the band adding electronic textures and live mixing to the Steintiger sound.
Steintiger performs, improvises and let the listeners feel free to enter an individual deep musical vision, moving continuously with space and time.
Their purpose is to express the hybrid, cosmopolitan environments and fundamental darkness of the twenty-first century.
