Jeffs experiments with sound and music go back nearly 30 years. Earlier efforts involved a vast array of custom built electronic processors and sound generators, modified microphones and instruments. There were also many experiments with generative and algorithmic composition starting in 1982 using computers.

Now that computers have caught up to the real world, his device building efforts have been mostly an effort to come back out of the computer environment and back into more intuitive realms.
