Sonaranda is the Son that keeps on plowing; that works and walks towards new horizons. It is a bridge between old and new musical proposals, the intermingling of styles, genres and sonorities in the voice of the present-day blood, a contemporary view of the Mexican Son .
It is a trip through the sound landscapes of Mexico: working with the traditional sounds –imbuing itself with them– and fusing them with other languages from universal music, both academic and popular, or from other ethnic groups around the world. It is balance between tradition and new musical currents: it is plowing and marching. Sonaranda pulsates with that which is sublime and subtle in the human spirit; it is –in its material essence– born from the heart of the peoples, fashioned with the heart and aimed at the heart of those who listen to it.
Its main purpose is to meet anew with Mexican culture in a different way, echoing the country's own nature – a crossroad of all paths– and to invite the listener to reflect upon what Mexico is and to become acquainted with its music's immense scope of possibilities. In this sense, being Son , it is seething with the vitality and energy of all traditions.
All the musicians who are part of Sonaranda graduated as concert-players at the Escuela Nacional de Música de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and have a professional career in different areas. We have offered concerts throughout all of Mexico and at several international forums.
