Artist Detailed Info: Screenstar

Screenstar were formed in 1998 by the original members Red (vocals), Kev (guitar FX), Lee (guitar), Warwick (bass) and Olly (drums).The basic idea was to kick the ass out of the music industry. After recording their first demo 'Is There A Future In It?' in 1998, Screenstar (after replacing guitarist Lee with new playa James) were signed to Daniel Lane's Noise Central label and released their first (and only) single Green Eye in 1999 (with the well respected producer Dave Chang). Unfortunatly a bad review by cheese rockers Incubus in Kerrang magazine meant only a handful of shops agreed to stock the single (bastards!). Despite this the band still managed to sell 99% of the cds printed (the other 1% is still available to buy on Amazon.com).

The band also had demo track 'Grounded' put onto the 21st Century Media Blitz Vol.II cd alongside Kill II This, Earthtone 9, Orange Goblin, Raging Speedhorn, King Prawn, Medulla Nocte and Freebase. Unfortunatly label owner Daniel Lane was offered a job at Metal Hammer magazine shortly after recording the unreleased 'Grounded' single and the band were left unsigned once again in 2001. Following this, drummer Olly left for university and guitarist James left to be a dad so the band brought former Sex By Sound drummer Wayne Roberts in and Warwick moved onto guitar to make way for local bass hero TC formerly of Not By Choice. Now back up to full strength the band went to record a new demo in 2003 and with tracks such as 'Fist' and 'Quicksand' won Metal Hammer's demo of the month!

Then more personnel changes came as Kev went to see the world (a lifelong dream) and TC had to relocate elsewhere due to personal problems and left half a band again! Screenstar, sadly, never recovered from this. After bringing in Wayne's brother on bass and former Jr Loaded player Matt on guitar(albeit too briefly) the band went to record their final make or break cd, but musical differences were too great; the bassist, drummer and manager wanted to make a cock rock/pop cd to sell to major labels, whereas the singer and guitarist still wanted to be a bit underground and in the end no one was happy with the final product and in late 2005 Screenstar were no more. Screenstar did have the honour of playing at the legendary 100 Club in london and supported (or were supported by) Slunt, Raging Speedhorn, Not By Choice, Jr Loaded, Viking Skull, Defenestration, Polysics, Scurge, Orko, (the great)Godsacre, Violation (now Gutworm), Cousin Joey, Bright Paper Werewolves, Rattlesnake Remedy(Uuurgh!) and local rivals Autonomy.
