Now a duo, the original 4 members of the band were:
Katrina Ellison "Kat": Lead Vox, Harmonium, Keyboards.
Andrés López "Guguillo": Drums, Loops, Vox.
Miguel Gómez "PoJoe": Bass, Vox. (photographer and bass player, currently based in NYC, and Soviética's first bass player)
and Juan Pablo García "Pignas": Guitar, Vox. (currently a member of Soviética in Bogota-Colombia)

A guest musician, David Velez aka Lezrod (based in Bogotá) contributed electronic bits towards the end of the song "Roses".

The band as a whole, formed in Bogota in 2005, gathering the large ammount of experience López and Gómez had gained while working in other local bands during the 1990's. All of the bands they played in were underground/indie projects with a large local following fan base. When they met again after many years of not seeing each other (at a club in which Gómez was DJ-ing), they came up with the idea of forming the band.

Previously, Andres López was the drummer for the bands "Enchiladas Atomicas", "Danny Dodge", "Bombalacran" and "Sexy Lucy" and "Two Way Analog". Currently, he has another solo project called "Church Cinema'. He is widely recognised as a talented drummer in Bogota's rock scene.

Miguel Gómez had played bass for "Primaria Fascista", EL Zut, and "Sondatomica" during the 90's and in the first incarnation of "Two Way Analog" (initially called "Elvis Jones"). When he joined Sataray, he was working as a photographer and lecturer in Bogota for many years as well. After leaving the band, he went to record the basic tracks of the Soviética project, left to reside in the UK and now lives in New York City where he works as a Fine Art photographer.

Sataray disbanded as a four piece unit in mid 2007, with two of the members Ellison and Lopez, remaining. Other musicians have been involved briefly in the project since then, but nowadays the band is considered a duo.

Sataray refers to its own sound as a "sonic dreamscape". It also incorporates electronic elements into their acoustic, original mix. Some of their influences include the bands Portishead, Massive Attack, Kula Shaker, Dead Can Dance and middle-eastern music.

The sound has an ethnic base of Indian harmonium and middle-eastern mused vocals. All of their influences and music textures create a style that could be described as 'mystic-hop'.
