RED20 was conceived by Alastair Turl at the end of 2002 as an instrumental electronic music project. These sonic experiments culminated in the release “World in Flames” in April 2003.

Some time in May that year, guitarist Andrew Hawnt joined RED20. 2004’s release “Misled But Not Dead” dragged the RED20 sound in a more guitar-oriented direction as Al and Andy’s musical backgrounds collided. The new sound coalesced further with “The Red Album” later that same year, adding a healthy dose of aggression and bassist Dave O’Kelly to the lineup. “The Red Album” became a minor hit with the Sheffield goth and alternative scene, gaining airplay at a variety of pubs and clubs. Comparisons to bands such as KMFDM and Ministry were made.

Not content to rest on their laurels, Al, Andy and Dave immediately began recording the next album, “Citizen Stain”. Released in 2006 with a running time of over an hour, the recording process was far from straightforward. This was RED20’s most ambitious moment so far and though the album featured some fantastic moments (notably the single “Carnivore”), it was ultimately responsible for the breakup of the band.

Fastforward to October 2012. After a six year hiatus from releasing music and performing, Al released the tongue-in-cheek “Dear Mr. Romney” single. This was followed a few months later in 2013 with the “Songs of Praise” EP. The EP was well received despite being a drastic shift from the old RED20 sound to a more sparse and haunting sound.

In 2014, RED20 announced “The Butcher’s Arcana”. Billed as a return to the electro-industrial sound of “Misled But Not Dead” and “The Red Album”, the EP is set for released in August/September 2014. The single “Suit of Armour”, also on the EP, was released in July 2014.
