
Oscar Borgerth (December 16, 1906 in Rio de Janeiro – November 25, 1992 in Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian violinist and music teacher.
Life and Work
Oscar Borgerth studied in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro at the Instituto Nacional de Música with the violinists Orlando Frederico and Lorenzo Fernândez, among others. He then worked as concertmaster for several orchestras in Rio de Janeiro, such as the Orquestra da Sociedade de Concertos Sinfônicos from 1928, the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira from 1931 to 1941 and the Orchestra do Theatro Municipal.
In 1944 he became professor of violin playing at the Escola Nacional de Música in Rio de Janeiro. From 1929 he toured Latin America, the United States, Europe and Israel. Oscar Borgerth founded several chamber music ensembles such as the Quarteto Borgerth, the Trio Estrella-Borgerth-Gomez Grosso and the Trio Terán-Borgerth-Gomez Grosso.[1]
