may gray is a band based in knoxville, tn that is fronted by singer/guitarist Holly Briggs. Members include bassist Jeremy Bain, guitarist Michael Crouch, and drummer Aaron Sayers. may gray released an EP in 2006, and is currently in the studio recording a full LP set for release in early 2008. Though the band has taken varied times of hiatus, they have become a staple Knoxville band, sharing the stage with such acts as Bobb Bare Jr., Ghostfinger, Low Skies, Castanets, Deer Tick, Oneida, etc.

"may gray’s last show in Knoxville, a surreal night of intimate music upstairs at Barley’s, seemed at the time the bittersweet end of a short-lived, yet beloved act. Though the band had only been together a few months, their original drummer, B.J. Barbee, had already skipped off to pursue music in New York, and it was to be the last show for guitarist Mike Crouch, who was moving to Nashville, and new drummer Steve Clement, who already resided there. But that show had a surprising turnout and may gray quickly sold out its first run of self-titled EPs. Singer Holly Briggs, who emphatically encourages mass burning and distribution of the sold-out discs, and bassist/keyboardist Jeremy Bain knew they had a good thing and wanted to keep it alive. So the two have been biding their time practicing, playing a duo set on 90.3 the Rock, and awaiting the day when the whole band could be back together again. Saturday, June 18, all four members of may gray will perform its brilliant lo-fi rock at the Pilot Light along with harder outfits, New Brutalism (see below) and Bella Lea. After that, Clement is moving back to his hometown of Akron, Ohio, to finish his college degree, so there’s no telling when the next chance to catch them will be.
