Max Ebb

Max Ebb is the moniker of Max Hancock, and the name he often uses when composing music or capturing field recordings between the years 2004 to the present.

Max's first introduction to composing electronic music began in 1989 when he formed the band Diphthong, with Sean Flood and Richard Garrett. In 1995, after Richard's death, Diphthong separated, but Max Hancock continued to compose electronic music. His style at that time was heavily influenced by Markus Popp (Oval), Autechre and SND– a genre of music, that at the time wasn't widely know as "glitch," and Max referred to it as Nue-AM.

Max Hancock is originally from the Washington D.C. area and lived there from early childhood until 1999, when he then moved to Singapore. While in Singapore he ran an interaction design studio, Diphthong ID, and he got involved with the design and music scene there.

In 2004 Max created his first solo album titled Punggol Park, named after the park near where he stayed while in Singapore. He made field recordings at Punggol Park and transformed them into beats and heavy sonic reverberations that could be heard throughout the album.

After the Punggol Park project, he reversed directions changing to a style that was more minimal and abstract in its concept and structure. In 2005 he created his second album, Man Is Blind, which was then released in 2011.

In 2006 Max moved back to the Washington D.C. area where he continues to create visual and musical works as a digital artist.
