There are two artists that go by the name Matala.

1) Matala is an original surf rock band from Guam with tendencies to jazz it up and funk it out. Big on hooks and open to sonic experimentation, Matala's original self-titled release eschews stylistic boundaries while maintaining an unrelenting vibe and shit like that.

2) Music of islets, music of woods. Music of little huts with wooden floors and village islands. Seagulls on top of the shallow part of the sea. Beacons pointing for shoals to circumnavigate. Slow steps in the dimming sun. And wind, the endless wind, making it all sound like crackles or an endless buzz.

Matala is a one woman, one laptop group from Helsinki, Finland. Ona Kamu channels that endless buzz to compositions of beauty. Her music resonates the silent, sinuous moments of immediate, delicate presence. Still life, a voice close to you.

The songs bring in mind tones of folk music taken into an electronic context. Sounds of the accordion and little physical gadgets blend with IDM-styled computer rhythmics and Ona's singing.
