Malaurora is the electronic noise and sound design persona of Joe Dean. What began as a incling to expand his guitar improvisations — stretching and morphing textures through a self-built modular synth — soon spiralled into a full-fledged jump into electronic sound design. As Joe plunged deeper into the esoteric world of sound generators and granular processors, his growing fascination with dance music began to infuse itself in the music he made.

2023 saw Malaurora release two singles, Sky Pillar and Ramune. These tracks weave together unfamiliar elements and unexpected moments that disorient and captivate in equal measure. As the year progressed and into 2024, Malaurora ventured deeper into electronic performance. DJing didn’t feel like a natural fit for a guitarist, so instead, Malaurora was brought to life with a band, infusing the live music with movement and humanistic nuance.
