“Casa da Bôxa is the name of my parent´s house. Of a family known by their strange ways, that lived here for many generations. They were dreamers, writers, teachers and musicians. My grandphater built a school in the house, where he taught the first villagers to read, eighty years ago.
In Bairrada, when someone says “you look like a Bôxa” he means “are you out of your mind?”
After eight years living abroad, I felt the need to go back to this place and get deep into this story. I want to share the story of people who feel different than the majority and are labeled as strange, weirdos
Casa da Bôxa is a tribute to all ‘Bôxas’ of the world.” Magda Mendes
