The group "Lluís Vich Vocalis" of Valencia, also known as "Cor de Cambra Lluís Vich" is a 10 to 12 singers chamber male choir essentially devoted to the performance of vocal music from Renaissance and Early Baroque.
Its members, widely trained in the musical field, besides their activity in the group, also take part regularly in other early music groups, such as “Capella Reial de Catalunya”, “Hesperion XX”, “Capella de Ministrers”, “Musica Ficta”, “Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana”, etc.
Since his first appearance in 1985, the group has been working to spread a lesser-known repertoire, with special concern for the music composed in Valencia. The group has taken part in the most significant festivals of the area of Valencia and has performed all along Spain, France and also a tour of concerts in Taiwan. The group has made several recordings of early Valencian polyphony, Choirmasters in the Cathedral of Valencia and the “Misteri d’Elx”. Its recording, “L’Esperit de la Contrareforma”, is made up of works of polyphony composed and performed according to the Council of Trent ordinances in the middle XVI Century. “Paribus Vocibus” is a recording devoted entirely to works by Spanish composer Tomas Luis de Victoria, composed for voices of similar range that can be performed by a male choir.
Recently the group has recorded a TV program with pieces of “Misteri” and music composed by Ginés Pérez and alongside the Capella de Ministrers they have performed in the Olivier Messiaen Hall in Paris for Radio France.
Apart from the group regular work “a capella” or with instruments and its performance together with Capella de Ministrers of the middle-ages program “El Llibre Vermell” and “Ad Honorem Virginis”, they have also taken part in the stage production of Rossini’s opera “L’italiana in Algeri” along with British conductor Julian Reynolds.
Its last recording "Ad Honorem Virginis" included in the album “Música en Temps de Jaume I” by Capella de Ministrers, has been recently rewarded by the magazine CD Compact with the award granted by the Sworn within its reward´s summoning 2009.
The group has also dealt with other musical activities, such as the program together with the saxophone player Perico Sambeat, a musical experiment blending polyphony with jazz. The product of this work has been the recording of the CD “Discantus”.
The University of Valencia supports and sponsors the musical heritage research and spreading activity that Lluis Vich Vocalis carries out.
