Japanese experimental hardcore/screamo.
1996 - 2003

Kulara started as a trio in 1996. They released a string of EPs and added several members in their lifespan. The first two EPs were mostly screamo. Notably however, their third EP "5 Pieces Songs," would see them delve into experimentation, blending their previous screamo sound and post-hardcore with brutal prog and noise rock, and found them using odd time signatures. The band would continue further in this direction on their fourth EP "A Naked Landscape," adding piano to the instrumentation and extending track lengths. Their last two EPs were compiled and rereleased together in 2001 as "Fragmental Remembrance, a Switch of Resurrection, and My Hearing Vanished." Originally the album had the Naked Landscape tracks ahead of the 5 Pieces Songs tracks, however in the 2024 rerelease the EP order was interestingly swapped for greater cohesion and flow.

After disbanding, members went on to create a new project called Hununhum with 根本潤 from There Is A Light That Never Goes Out and Z.

In 2007 Kulara released "1997-2001 Hue..." which included their entire discography on CD. Long after, in 2024, Fragmental Remembrance was remastered onto vinyl and finally released onto streaming services.
