Johns

1. JOHNS is a a five piece band from Buffalo, New York, formed in January of 2013. Originally the one-man bedroom project of John Toohill, now a full band. The band features ex-members of upstate NY's The Fucking Hotlights. Johns play a dark, moody, and tense style of music that borrows inspiration from genres of music that include post punk, garage rock, and indie rock. Inspiration for the band's musical output is drawn from a diverse variety of bands including The Blood Brothers, Nick Cave, Hot Snakes, and Drive Like Jehu.

2. Growing up in Calgary, Alberta, Matthew and Marc Johns were deeply involved in music throughout their lives. Both played instruments since a young age, growing through choirs, piano, and school bands. With time, both began composing their own pieces of music, especially with the introduction of guitar and bass to the repertoire. And in 2004, Marc and Matt were beginning to write their very first pieces of music together. Through musical development and progression, their style became unique and unlike that of other bands they listened to. Songs became more emotional and structured, fitting the ideas of each amidst its notes and beats. Throughout late 2008, into 2009, Johns was officially formed. A two piece band capable of a calm acoustic duet, drum/guitar duo, as well as guitar/bass formats. All songs are original collaborations of each member and showcase the range of musicianship known to the artists. Their music is honest, hard driven, and right to the point. The accumulation of their most recent material was home recorded and mixed by both brothers, and on July 22/2009; their first five song demo was released. Since its inception, practice and live perfection have been the ultimate goal for each brother. With each passing day, musical growth can be heard and seen within the walls of their basement studio.
