Thanks to Les Paul, John Velghe (pronounced Vel-gee) is a failed piano player. Born in the midwestern United States, he became a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (playing; guitar, drums, piano, accordion, vibraphones, rhodes, etc.) mostly out of neccessity -- finding musicians who can hear what's inside ones head is a tough lot.
When people ask Velghe who he studied under, he often responds “the American Masters.” They typically ask “Gershwin? Porter?” Velghe responds, “No. Wilson, Westerberg, Ellington, Escovedo and Osterberg (Brian, Paul, Duke, Alejandro and Iggy Pop, respectively).” Loosely translated, he has no academic musical training.
As an independent musician John has written, performed and toured the country in several bands including The Daybirds (managed through the Celine Dion Agency), Saint Jude, and famous fm. His songs have been released in North America and Europe. As a composer he has scored feature-length documentaries and short films.
