Artist Detailed Info: Isolate The Unknown

Isolate The Unknown is an American Heavy Metal band from Charlotte, North Carolina. Members are David Patrick McArdle (guitarist/songwriter/producer/keyboardist), Joshua Gordon Berndt (vocalist/lyricist/producer), Jon Price (percussionist/songwriter), Brad Joyce (bassist). They formed in the summer of 2010, under the name Army of the Sun. After realizing Rex Brown of Pantera started a new band called Arms of the Sun, they decided to change their name, eventually to Isolate the Unknown. David put a classified ad on Craigslist looking for a progressive metal drummer and Jon was the first response. They got together shortly after a phone conversation and the rest is history. Brad & David were already writing & planning to form a new band from a previous metal band they were in called Dead in the Vein (2003-2008).

Guitarist David McArdle, while studying for his bachelor's degree in Music, came up with the band name in Calculus I class at CPCC in 2013. His Calculus teacher said, "with any linear quadratic equation, you must first, always isolate the unknown ...which means solve for X by isolating X from the other variables."
Isolate the Unknown had two other lead vocalists, Kenneth Boggess (2010-2013) & Mel "Skovy" Patton (2013-2015) before finding their permanent and irreplaceable singer Joshua Berndt (2016 - present).

Eclipse: After recruiting Josh, they immediately started working on their first independent E.P "Eclipse", which was only released as a digital download in early 2018 on all major online streaming services. This was also the first time they worked with multiple Emmy award winning producer and engineer, Rob Tavaglione of Catalyst Recordings in Charlotte North Carolina. "Eclipse" is a four song E.P that featured early versions of the songs Unify, Hate, Drag, & Fright Night, which would later be released on their first full length album "ieogenis". The E.P did very well on its own, that it paid for the band to finally get their first round of merchandise.

ieogenis: October 13th, 2018, Isolate the Unkown headed back to Catalyst Recordings with a handful of new material to record their first full length album with Rob Tavaglione. It would take the band nearly 3 years to record and release their first masterpiece "ieogenis", partly due to the pandemic but also, they wanted to make sure every song was written and recorded as they envisioned. February 22, 2022 "ieogenis" (ancient Greek word for virus) was released on all online music platforms all around the world. The album includes song titles TidePod, Unify, Drag, Paradigm, Hate, Wounded, Re-Hy-Drate, II III VII, Fright Night. Isolate the Unknown have plans to release a limited number of CDs, vinyl, & cassette tapes in mid 2023.

As of today, the band is not currently active due to personal situations and lack of communication between members. David and Josh are planning to keep Isolate the Unknown alive and well with new merchandise and a new album, which the public may see in 2023-2024.
