Andreas: Glitter Litter started in 2022 and was the result of two separate ideas that I had. Firstly, I read a lot of rock biographies at the time and I am also very interested in comics. As such, I thought it would be very cool to make a rock star comic about the rise and fall of a band. Secondly, I had a lot of unrecorded songs and song ideas from previous bands that I felt deserved to be published. So why not combine these two ideas? That’s how Glitter Litter started, as a comic about a fictional rock band. The songs were supposed to be the soundtrack to the comic strips. However, I really didn’t have time to do both the comic and music and more importantly I soon realized that this concept was quite difficult to get across. So I dropped the comic book idea, kicked the comic characters out, and Glitter Litter became my solo band or solo project. I do everything myself with help from friends and digital stuff. If this takes off, I might very well put a band together but at this point it is me.”
In terms of the band or project name Glitter Litter, Andreas indicated: “I had a bunch of different names for a band. Since my favourite era is the Hollywood Glam Punk scene of the ’90s, sometimes called Bubbleglam, I wanted a similar name – glammy, funny and cool sounding. If the name also has an inherent contrast, between the beautiful and the ugly, that is just a bonus. Glitter Litter checked those boxes for me.
With respect to how he came up with the album titled Shocks To Sleeping Beauties, Andreas revealed: “Glitter Litter released the debut album Hits For The Heart a year ago and a few singles last fall. The new album features six songs plus one bonus track on CD. I describe the music as a cross between The Ramones — quite fast paced punk — and Bay City Rollers — bubblegum pop — but with influences from glam metal and pop punk too. The themes are usually bubblegummy, inspired by the bubbleglam genre and also pre-british invasion ’50s-’60s pop. However, there are also a few themes that deal with empowerment and personal emancipation. About taking a step out of the shadow of a bad situation or taking a leap of faith in yourself. That is what the title Shocks To Sleeping Beauties is referring to, to inspire such realizations and acts.”
