The vocal group "Ezerki" and the "7/8" orchestra (the seven eighths, a typical Macedonian beat) are joined in one ensemble that works within the Croatian – Macedonian Association in Zagreb, Croatia.
"Ezerki" vocal group has already been working for 10 years, while the "7/8" orchestra was formed in the year 2000.
It is about Croatians who live permanently in Zagreb. Some of them were born in Macedonia and have been living in Croatia for a long time now, while for the others the only link to Macedonia is "nothing else" then those smooth and small things and moments that make life nicer…
"Ezerki" is 19 women who sing in three-part, while some of them perform the outstanding solos.
"7/8" orchestra is quite un-typical formation of mixed generations and profiles with even some musicians from professional pop-rock groups. The group has 9 members, some of them playing the authentic traditional Macedonian instruments like the "tapan" and "tarabuka" percussions, "kaval" flute, "daire" tambourine; and also some atypical instruments like violoncello, mandoline and alt tambouritza.
"Ezerki & 7/8" have been recognised as one of the most important traces of Macedonian music out of Macedonia, by those people who are well-known and who's suggestions and critics are always welcome (Miljenko Prohaska, Ljubomir Brangiolica and many others). The critics do accredit "Ezerki and 7/8" ensemble as the ones who could represent the Macedonian culture far beyond the borders of this region, while some journalists have used the comparison with the legendary Ry Cooder’s "Buena Vista Social Club".
The ensemble performs a two-hour programme composed of well-known traditional Macedonian songs like Eleno kerko , Jovano Jovanke , Makedonsko devojce and many others; and of several virtuosos "oro" dances like Kalajdjisko , Komitsko , Kasapsko… The concert is plentiful of rhythm and positive energy, thus stimulating the audience to participate with clapping and performing different sounds and odd beats.
The ensemble is proud to mention they published a CD in late 2003, with a symbolic title "Livingroom" (Pesni od golemata odaja) with twelve, carefully selected music numbers. Though without any big media promotion, the CD has so far became a dear guest in many homes. It’s edition can be compared with many well-known and established names from Croatian music stage. The sign of a growing number of "pirate" CD copies shows as well that it was definitely not an "empty shot".
The new album is at present being prepared, with a working title "Baknez". It will host as well the two big names at the Croatian music scene – lady Radojka Sverko and the most popular Macedonian singer, Tose Proeski. The publishing is planned for Spring 2006 under the "Dallas records" label.
The creative guides of the ensemble are Ms. Darka Kragovic (who leads "Ezerki") and Mr. Bruno Urlic (who leads "7/8" orchestra), while all the other technical and organisational things are undertaken by the founders of the ensemble - Mrs. Lena Đapic (who is the secretary of the Croatian-Macedonian association and a member of "Ezerki") and Mr. Stojan Trajkov (who is the founder and a prominent member of "7/8" orchestra).
