Digital80

An electronic duo Digital80 (Carlos Moya and Israel Azofeifa) formed in 2006 in Costa Rica (Central America). The band name concept is a combination of all 80’s music and the future sound; the whole idea is a mix of sounds, cultures and expressions learned in all living years.

Their influences are many: Jazz, Techno, down tempo, house, Drum and Bass ambient, Latin music and more. They usually mix of electronic and conventional instrumentation, use of distorted samples as well as live and radio or film audios and their layering and blending of these elements. Followers of Boards of Canada and Telefon Tel Aviv, the band uses different rock and electronic elements or noises and whispers loops, all those atmospheres are included in theirs songs

Moya and Ita are costarican music with different projects; Carlos was formed of many alternative rock bands; Madre Santa, Tali Latin Band and Tripode. He has formal studies on music and he plays bass since 15 years ago. Also he plays piano and drums as well.

Ita is part also of the underground costarican musics, he was part of Carmen (Alternative Rock Band), Unisono (Electronic band) and now he is part of Version Beta an Alternative electro-rock band. He plays guitar since 15 year ago and he likes does experiment with sound and colors.

They are friend since 1990 for music reason and similar bands likes but until 2006 they decides start a electro project base on laptop concept and they finally does DIGITAL80.

Carlos (Laptop computer Bass, keyboard, controllers, battery loops and others sounds) and Israel (Laptop computer guitar, keyboards, audio loops and others glitches) have been include their music in a new genre: Intelligent Dance Music = IDM (is a genre of electronic music derived from dance music).

Digital80 has released two CDs, one EP album “Ecuatorial 80” (2007) and also "Cosas que no lastiman cuando se les ve de cerca" (2007). The first CD was nominated into Best Progressive or Electronic album category during the Costar Rican authors and musician Annual Awards in 2007 and the second one won the category of best electronic artist in CR in 2008.

Finally D80 was release in December 2008 the third CD "Plastica". It has 10 track with Latin influence but never forget the Europe beat. Now this release can get it totally free to download in the D80 web page or in Last.fm... enjoy it!!
