uncontrolled music.

when the debate began, in late 2004, we already knew that definitely nothing bad would come out from this band. after all, two thirds of the band - guitarist/vocalist, sérgio ugeda, and drummer, richard ribeiro - came from the recently disbanded, at the time, diagonal (perhaps the greatest representant of the "broken" kind of rock music that existed in brazil, in the mid 90's 'till early 00's). it's clear the influence of the former band, although debate's sound leads to new directions, unexplored by the duo before.

joined by bassist marcelo mandaji, diagonal released their self titled first ep on amplitude records in 2006. it was recorded on el rocha studios (são paulo, sp, brazil), mixed by j. robbins on the magpie cage studios (baltomre, md, usa) and mastered by t.j. lipple on silver sonya studios (arlington, va, usa). in early 2008 the trio released by free download on the amplitude records' website their self titled 2nd ep that was recorded in late 2007 by j. robbins on the usa, during one of the band's usa tours.

after their '08 usa tour the band did a farewell show for their previous line up in brazil (drummer richard and bassist marcelo left the band). nowadays debate is a duo. the current line up consists in sérgio ugeda and eduardo ramos and the music changed towards to a experimental avant-gard sound.
