What is Borgasm?

Borgasm is one of the characters developed by R. Nicholas Starr of Kunstwerk Multimedia. But a key difference between Borgasm and his other characters is that Borgasm is a place, not a person.

Set in the 24th century, where Starr’s story mostly takes place, Borgasm is a key location. An AI run nightclub where everyone is welcome no matter their gender, sexuality, body type, color, wealth, or culture. It’s also a place of personal discovery. Sexual shame and rape culture is as present in the 24th century as it is today and Borgasm stands firmly against it. No matter who you are, or who you want to become, you will find acceptance there. Use of physical or emotional pressure to force you to do something against your will is not tolerated. Consequences are swift and severe.

Borgasm is also a place where you can customize yourself and tailor your personal sensory experience. Whether that is through extra sensory implants for every day life, or personalized intimate accessories. Hack your body as you see fit! It’s your body, and your life, so you should be able to do what you want with it.

That’s nice, but how is that relevant to music?

Concerts and festivals are a place of extreme social pressure. No matter what genre of music or the diversity of its attendees. Rape happens too often (let me be clear, once is too often) and it ruins people’s lives. Unfortunately no one talks about it. Sex, even though it’s a major piece of our species, has been turned into a shameful act which should not be discussed. There are even people who don’t even know how to talk about their own genitals in a medical environment, because even your own body is shameful.

Compounding the issue, musicians often use sex as a way to objectify and belittle others. ‘Fucking a bitch and forgetting her name’ is not worth glorification.

I want to bring human sexuality out of the darkness and empower every man, woman, and those who are unsure to love themselves and respect the bodily autonomy of others.

So let’s tie this all together. By using objects like dildos and masturbators in music I am bringing the topic up for discussion in a way that I hope is engaging. No one should be ashamed or uncomfortable about a penis or a vagina, nor should anyone be uncomfortable with what they want to do with it. It’s part of who you are!

Why have a message at all?

I felt if I didn’t have a positive message it would be too easy for people to use my music as a way to manipulate others into doing things against their wishes, which is something I definitely don’t want! This resulted in developing the character’s defining principles.

How I make the music:

I use specialized electromagnetic microphones to record the EM sounds of sex toys. You can hear other sounds as well, but I settled on sex toys because of the wide variety of sounds and the ability to create a positive message about a taboo object.
