Aowda

AOWDA is a stoner band formed in Enschede, The Netherlands in 2004 by lead singer and guitarist Tom Velthuizen.

After working late in a local pop-stage, Tom and a friend (after having downed several drinks) were discussing how difficult it is to come up with a decent band name. They initially came up with "Angry Women Drinking Alcohol", but decided that it was too long and that the abbreviation wasn't very catchy either. Therefore, they inserted the word "Old" into the name and thus the name AOWDA was born. After a little recruiting, Lidewij Olive (drums), Nick Veenendaal (bass) and Ravian de Vries (vocals, guitar, didgeridoo) joined AOWDA and completed the band.

In the beginning (after countless hours of jamming and practicing in the Art-Projects studios), having no own repetoire yet, the band mainly covered songs from bands like Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Celestial Season and Fu Manchu during their performances. The band played at various local gigs in Twente and, later on, in various locations throughout the Netherlands (including one memorable performance at Cafe Swaf in Hoorn, oktober 2004).

At the end of 2007, AOWDA produced their first CD, "Desertification", featuring six original tracks and three live-tracks.
