Al Reed was a pseudonym for Fred J. Schamp (1880-1974), a native of Iowa who married Addah Louise Reed (A.L. Reed) in 1903. She was a musician like her husband and was a church organist. She lived to be 98 years old, outliving Fred by five years. They had two daughters. Fred operated a music business in Sioux City, Iowa and was also a music publisher and composer. Fred wrote songs and instrumentals with "Scotty Flinn" apparently his main ragtime composition. A newspaper mentioned he had composed a new intermezzo for piano and orchestra named "Onawa". Fred died in Nebraska in 1974 at the age of 93.
