Like most Actor Slash Models, Ricky French, Karen Anson and Adam Zarth are extremely talented and can walk and talk at the same time.
A Melbourne three-piece band with a lo-fi, high-energy philosophy, Actor Slash Model utilise cheap toy keyboards, synths, old beat-up guitars and inventive, pounding drums to construct simple, beat-driven pop songs.
Loosely characterized as ‘Pop-Noise’, the band takes its influences from the sounds of indie bands such as Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Le Tigre, Fugazi, The Clean and Electrelane.
There is no one musical style to Actor Slash Model. No two songs sound the same. The set travels from toe-tapping electro punk to dance to skewed wall-of-sound post-rock to hushed pop that is as sweet as custard. From mangled noise to shimmering chimes, they are really the band who wants it all.
The band released an EP “Gossip About Guys” on new Melbourne label, Mistletone. The single “My Agent Says” received substantial airplay on radio stations across the country, including Triple J, where it was playlisted and featured as a ‘catch-of-the-day’. The song was also playlisted in Wellington on Radio Active.
