Artist Info: Simon Karas

Simon Karas (Σίμων Καράς, 1905–1999) was one of the most influential Greek musicologists, known for his monumental work in preserving and reviving Greek demotic (folk) music and Byzantine ecclesiastical chant. Born in Pyrgos, Tinos, he dedicated his life to the study, collection, teaching, and performance of traditional Greek music, which he considered a direct continuation of the ancient and Byzantine musical heritage.
