Mickey 3D (or using the correct capitalisation miCkey[3d] as per the band's own website) formed in 1997 in Saint-Étienne, France, an old mining and industrial town located near Lyon. This might explain the politically charged lyrics of their songs.

Three members started the band: Mickaël Furnon, Aurélien Joanin, and Najah El Mahmoud.
