Ensemble 21 was founded in 1993 by Jason Eckardt (composer) and Marilyn Nonken (pianist) in New York City. They are known for commisioning new works from relatively unknown and/or emerging American composers. They are also known for performing the works of innovative European composers seldom played in the U.S., particularly those associated with Spectralism.
