The Conqueroo

The Conqueroo were a Texan blues and psychedelic rock band in the late 1960’s, who frequently performed at the Vulcan Gas Company in Austin and were considered the house band. Band members where Charlie Prichard - vocals, lead guitar and bass, Ed Guinn - keyboard, woodwind, bass, vocals, Tom Bright - drums, Bill Carr - harmonica, vocals, and Wally Stopher - rhythm guitar and keyboards. Originally Powell St John was leading the band but left in 1966 before the band really got going and was replaced by Bob Brown on rhythm guitar and vocals. In 1968 Daryl Rutherford replaced Tom Bright on drums and later on Gerry Storm replaced Daryl Rutherford on drums. Various recordings were made in Austin and in San Francisco. The Conqueroo put out one 45 when they were active, ‘1 to 3’ b/w ‘ I’ve Got Time’ on the sonobeat label. A compilation LP - ‘From The Vulcan Gas Company’ was released 1987 in the UK.
