Peter Morhard

Peter Morhard (also spelled Mohrhardt/Mohrhart; c. 1630–1685) was a German organist and composer closely associated with Lüneburg. Publisher documentation places him from 1662 until his death as organist of Lüneburg’s Michaeliskirche, and almost everything known of his music comes down to a small set of organ chorale settings. These surviving pieces—including Alle Welt, was lebet und webet, Meine Seele erhebet den Herren, Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir, and Wacht auf, ihr Christen alle—are transmitted in the Lüneburg tablature manuscript D-Lr Mus.ant.pract. K.N. 209, a key North German source that preserves Morhard’s name on the page even when much of his life remains only lightly documented.
