Lowball is a melancholy punk band based in Newark, DE. The bands current lineup consists of Gavin Hammond-Sanchez (guitar and vocals) , Juno ‘Eloise’ Warfel (bass & vocals) , and Mikey Davitt (drums). They are best known for their energetic live performances and their noisy, fast paced songs. The name ‘Lowball’ came from the bands drummer Mikey Davitt, who had a list of names if he were to ever join a band, with Lowball being one of the earliest names.
The band formed in May 2025 after Sanchez responded to a flier sent by original Lowball guitarist Sean Williams, from the now-defunct Newark DIY venue, Free Parking, who was hosting a final semester show and needed a band to join the lineup. Despite not having a band formed, Sanchez scouted local musicians and friends to join. Eloise and Sanchez were close friends in high school, they’ve also collaborated on songs under the name ‘looks of caution’. Despite not having much experience with playing bass, Eloise would join the group after Sanchez sent her a message at 5am asking to play.
The original lineup consisted of Eloise, Sanchez, Davitt, Williams and guitarist Rider Nichol, who would leave the band shortly after their first show, along with Williams, who would move back to his hometown , but will play occasionally with the group. Hunter McClaus would join as a temporary replacement.
The band is influenced by a range of bands from their local punk scene in Delaware. Including Death By Indie, Quick Change!, Community Chapstick, and Think Machine. Outside of their scene, the bands list of influences include Archers of Loaf, Fugazi, The Get up Kids, Hum, Turnstile, Etc.
