Layla Ramezan

Iranian pianist Layla Ramezan (Persian: لیلا رمضان ) has always sought to create a connection between her Persian origin and the contemporary music which she encounters daily. Her musical and pianistic education began in Tehran with Mosfata-Kamal Pourtorab, Raphael Minaskanian and Delbar Hakimova.

Having moved to Paris in 2000 and received a scholarship from the Albert Roussel foundation, she integrated the classes of Jean Micault and Devi Erlih at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot where she received a diplôme de virtuosité in piano performance and chamber music. She was later awarded a Diplôme d'Etudes Musicales with distinction, at the Conservatoire National de Saint-Maur des Fossés and Créteil in the classes of Jacqueline Bourgès-Maunoury and Christophe Bukudjian. Layla went on to gain two Masters, in musical interpretation and accompaniment, at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne, where she currently lives, having studied under Christian Favre and Marc Pantillon.

During her studies in Lausanne, she met several inspiring musical personalities – such as William Blank and Philippe Albera, who noticed her talent for contemporary music and encouraged her to pursue a career in this field. She then worked with composers such as Tristan Murail, Luis Naon and Nicolas Bolens, and met many young composers, several of whom had studied with Michael Jarrell in Geneva. She is married to French composer and clarinetist Blaise Ubaldini whose proximity has led her to a deeper understanding of the process of musical creation. She has performed all over the world: at Carnegie Mellon Unversity in Pittsburgh, USA, at the Royal Irish Academy of Dublin, at the Société de Musique Contemporaine de Lausanne, at the festival Athénée 4 in Geneva, at Victoria Hall in Geneva, at Roodaki Hall of Tehran, at the "off" festivals of Cully and Sion.

Layla Ramezan is the pianist of the Ensemble Matka in Geneva, and the principal organist of the parish of Cully. She also accompanies the Choeur Bach of Lausanne and teaches piano at the Bercher music school.
