Future 1983 was formed in the summer of 2007 after a sweep of local band breakups in their hometown Fernandina Beach, Florida. The band classifies itself as a progressive/experimental rock band. Although it is mostly compared to the bands Them Roaringtwenties and Tera Melos the kind of music Future plays is rare.
The band consists of three members; The guitarist, Danny Strickland, has been a part of local bands such as Marga and Smoke Stack Lightning, and also has a strong background in jazz guitar from many years in Fernandina Beach High School's jazz band. Andrew Wood, the bassist, also has played in local bands such as York, and The Murves. Lastly, Elon Hiers, the drummer, has played in many local bands including York, Auctober and Five Finger Fillet. He is sponsored by Saluda Cymbals, and has a strong background in jazz drumming due to many years performing in jazz bands. Elon also took part in marching band at Fernandina Beach High School, and went to state competition. However he has recently moved out of Fernandina. Danny and Elon, who have known each other since their 9th grade year in high school, played in their school's jazz band together, and received a superior at the Smokey Mountain Music Festival. Andrew and Elon, who have known each other since 1st grade, were in York together. They played which many shows, mostly in Jacksonville, and other cities in Florida and southeast Georgia. After York broke up in the spring of '07, the three musicians came together, and almost immediately had enough songs for an EP. Right away they recorded, however they they didn't stop writing.
