Downside kid is an indie folk band which formed in Gatineau, Quebec. The band was founded in 2009 by singer songwriter Jeremi Pierre Caron. Multi-instrumentalist Pascal Desgagné, who mentored Caron in his musical journey since his late teens, joined the band in 2010. Jamming buddies since the last 15 years, bassist, Jimmy Major, drummer Jean-Marc Meunier and lap steel and guitarist Jas Hamel joined the group in the winter of 2013. The lyrical content of their songs often relates to family, romanticized life experiences and the longing of a better past. Considered as a folk band through indie pop, their influences are very broad, including harmonium, Pink Floyd, Guided by voices, Elliot Smith, Eric’s trip and Julie Doiron. They have released a 2 track demo in 2009, the Concordia Sessions (7 songs) and a 3 song ep all available as free downloads on Bandcamp. They are presently working on their first full length album, aiming for a release next fall.
