Chainerection

Chainerection was founded in a gritty depressing industrial town Äänekoski in 2009. It all began when drummer Darth Sibelius wanted to form a real honest rock band. Not a crappy metal or melodic death band or a gay indie pop band, but a real rock band in the vein of Scandinavian action rock pioneers Gluecifer and Hellacopters. He set standards for the members of the band: you have to be a good guy, you must handle vast amounts of alcohol and you can’t be fat.

The band got together pretty naturally and easily. We got Uncle Slim, the best rock guitarist of the county area, for the six-string (even though he didn’t even own a guitar at the time). For the lead singer we got Bastardamus, the only singer that could sing in tune in town, who was probably playing Russian roulette by himself back at his flat at the time. I was in Netherlands when Sibelius contacted me and asked me to play the bass. Only thing I remember from that contact were the words “Gluecifer, fucking tight, Hellacopters, booze, no fat guys in a band…” I was in instantly and next thing I knew I was flying back to Finland.

First training sessions were held in the middle of the freezing Finnish winter just before the year 2009 ended. On those sessions we played some of the first Chainerection riffs, Hellacopters’ Soulseller, which eventually found it’s way to our setlist, and other gems of the golden era of Scandinavian action rock. The pieces had fallen into their places. Every guy in the band knew that this was the band they were looking for since they first started playing. Second, third and fourth rehearsals came and went and the feeling got stronger. Sheer madness glistened in every player’s eyes and we played so that our fingers bled. More songs got made and the style of the band got clearer. Influences from stoner rock and 70’s pub rock got thrown into the mix. Soon we had enough material for a full length album and the first gigs were booked.

Chainerection played their first gig in a bar that has been basically the living room of the band members called Pub Markus. Local crowd looked astonished at the familiar guys who were now playing some tight new shit. We wanted for everyone to know that we weren’t kidding around. This shit was for real. After the first gigs we made some others in the Central Finland area. To get gigs from bit further we decided to record a promo tape. At this point the guys in the band had moved all over Finland. We had very limited time and recorded all of the songs in three days. The tape was now ready but because everyone in the band was totally broke there was no way to get the cd’s pressed.

During the next months Chainerection was working less or more actively, usually less. Distances between Joensuu, Tampere, Jyväskylä and the Headquarters town Äänekoski were eating away the motivation and the fury that Chainerection had in the beginning. But we still played gigs all over Finland in Jyväskylä, Tampere, Haukivuori and Seinäjoki. We also did a little trip outside the borders and played a gig in Hanila, Estonia. The recorded songs were forgotten into the depths of a hard drive until the drummer Darth Sibelius got his act together and got Tampere based label Mikrofoni Promotion to release the tape. What was once a promotape to get gigs was now transforming into Chainerections debut album. After some remixing we decided that we had a decent product in our hands. The playing on the album is lazy and the album sounds raw and gritty but the songs will kick you in the balls. And that’s the most important part, because Chainerection is not your mamas favourite goody-two-shoes pop group – We are honest, hard working, sweaty, smoky rock band… Sleaze dealer…
