Kalkan is not only a place in Turkey, but also stands for the philosophy held to by Erkin Cavus and Reentko Dirks: It is a guitar duo which sees itself as a band, forms landscapes using sound and depth, creates its own tonal cosmos and sees no boundaries between Turkish tradition and contemporary music – and gives the same rights to jazz as it does to classical music.
