Artist Info: The Cossacks

The Cossacks (sometimes called Cossacks without the article) were a garage/beat group from Auckland, New Zealand, established in 1964.

They were Beatles-influenced at first, but soon adopted a more Stones-oriented R&B style. The track 'Ugly Thing' (1966) is typical for that phase. The song remained unreleased at the time, but has surfaced on recent compilations of Kiwi beat, such as the 'How Is The Air Up There?' box set (2018).

The group did release a single in 1967, 'Wednesday I'm Glad' b/w 'Rapt' in 1967, in a slightly altered line-up. [read more...]
