
Mateo Casanova, full name Mateo Prado Casanova, also known as Cassanoua, (fl., 1648-1714) was a Spanish composer and chapel master.
The date and place of birth of Casanova are unknown. None of the classical musicologists, Saldoni, Pedrell, Barbieri or Soriano Fuentes, mentions Casanova.
The first news about Casanova is from his teaching at the Collegiate Church of Vitoria in 1684. The date of his appointment is unknown.
On March 6, 1688, he was appointed master chapel of the Cathedral of Santo Domingo de la Calzada. [read more...]
