
Georg Engelmann was a German organist and composer; b. Mansfeld, near Eisleben, c. 1575; d. Leipzig (buried), Nov. 11, 1632. He went to Leipzig, where he matriculated at the Univ. in 1593. About 1596 he was made organist at St. Pauli, the Univ. church, and later was its music director. From 1625 he also served as organist at the Thomaskirche. He excelled as a composer of dances, mainly pavans and galliards, which he publ. in three vols. (Leipzig, 1616, 1617, 1622). [read more...]
